The Wo(man)
8 in. x 8 in.
(materials: tissue paper, blick board, acrylic neon paint, national geographic magazines, toxic masculinity, glue, X-acto knife, palette knife)
This piece was a part of my sustained investigation for AP Studio; representing the idealisms of women and beauty standards. I started with an X-acto knife, cutting out individual images of men from National Geographic magazines. I collaged them onto a board and then I created the outline of the “idealized woman’s body”. The shape is made up of men; portraying the idea that the ideal body of a woman is an idea made by the opposite sex, which makes it an unrealistic standard that is continued to be promoted by social media.
