Smile

36 in. x 36 in.

(materials: canvas, gesso, acrylic paint, spray paint)

This piece was a collaboration - created by three teenagers with too much free time, nothing to do,  and spray paint. With the help of Katie Pierson and Teegan Duffy we created the Smile. Previously, I had painted this canvas a neutral blue, but did not have a use for it in the moment. So, we made a dripping smiley face with purple, red, and pink. We all signed the back, as well, to lay claim to this great work. That day, we also learned that if you bring something freshly spray painted inside it makes the entire building smell for days. A few days later, my team and I decided our piece needed something more. So I went back and painted half of it black and then remade the other half of the face in white, except without letting it drip this time.
